One of a few "get away from it all" universities in the UK while also being "Scotland's univerCity" - with more students per head of population than elsewhere.
The University of Dundee is growing fast in both size and reputation. It has performed well in both teaching and research assessment exercises, has given birth to a range of spin-out (new) companies to exploit its research.
Dundee became an independent university in 1967 after a 70 year relationship with the University of St Andrews - now a key partner. Its origins go back over a hundred years to 1881 when University College, Dundee was founded with the forward looking mission of "promoting the education of persons of both sexes".
Thanks to its south-facing position in the east coast of Scotland, Dundee has claims to be the sunniest city in Scotland. It offers plenty of personal space, a friendly atmosphere, easy escape routes to the hills and the sea, and is a relatively inexpensive place to live. It is neither "ancient" or "new" but with the best of both worlds and the worst of neither.
